The Couture Closet | Attention brides to be!

Hey everyone!

So….I’m really really really really excited because I just completed my last assignment for my online class!!! Which was my last class ever in my undergraduate career!!! Ahhh!!!

So what does this mean for you? It hopefully means more fun blogging with stuff to help you plan your wedding, my random thoughts, and just whatever other cool stuff I come across. So in honor of any brides to be who may not have their dress yet…this post is for you!

I had a friend recently ask me where I got my wedding dress. Well, I got it at The Couture Close Bridal Boutique in La Grange, Kentucky (near Louisville). Ladies–I cannot even begin to tell you how fabulous this place is! They were voted “Best Wedding Gowns in Louisville” by the WLKY A-List, and describe themselves as a “blend of an upscale New York style boutique with the charm of Southern hospitality.” I can tell you that they are all that and more! You walk into this adorable little store that is so fabulously decorated that it takes your breath away, and the walls are lined with the latest designer dresses. Lauren and Tera, who run the boutique, are pretty much the coolest girls ever! They made my dress shopping experience absolutely a dream. (Before I discovered the Couture Closet, I got dragged to David’s Bridal by my cousin, and happened to have such a terrible experience at that particular store that I was ready to not have a wedding haha, so Lauren and Tera were definitely a breath of fresh air!)

AND, this weekend, January 23-25 is their trunk show for the Vineyard Collection, and Reverie by Melissa Sweet (my two favorites!!). I know it’s short notice, but if you have a chance to make an appointment and don’t have a dress yet…do it! It’s so fabulous. Ok I know I used the word fabulous a lot in this post, but seriously.

And here is a photo of my dress that I LOOOVED, by my fabulous photographer Krystal:

So happy dress shopping everyone! I hope you all have a fabulous ;-) day!

Share the Love | Cans for Comments!

This year, I think I have been more in the holiday spirit than I have been in a looong time! I love it! (Pictures of our tree shall be forthcoming haha). And what better way to get in to the spirit of the holidays than giving, right?

So I came across some of my photographer friends blogs who are doing Cans for Comments, and donating a can of food to a local food bank for every comment left on the blog. So, I decided I wanted to join in the fun and giving!

For every comment left on the blog (can be on any entry, doesn’t have to be this one) between now and let’s say December 20, I will donate a can of food to the local food bank. With times being so tough for everyone, it really is important for us to give as much as we can to those who are having a hard time this holiday season. This time of year for me is also the time of year to really remember Jesus and everything He has done to show His love in my life, and a great time to try to spread that love around.

I feel like I’m really bad at writing on the blog lately…I think my brain is just fried from school! So I am going to stop there, but leave a comment when you get a chance! Also, check out these other blogs who are doing the same thing!

Merry Christmas everyone! Good luck to anyone still finishing up finals!

P.S. I just heard that we are up to 79 photographers participating in can drives. How awesome is that!? But those are a few photographers I had ready links to :)

Things I like today: Going Green

In honor of earth day today, I thought it would be a good time to blog about going green. No not turning green, not green with envy, but being eco-friendly! (Yeah I know, my jokes just get better and better right? Ha!) So I actually didn’t even realize today was earth day until later in the afternoon, but I did catch some cool ideas from the Martha Stewart show and some other places that I thought I’d share with you all!

1. Grocery Totes

This is such a fantastic idea! The main purpose is to cut down on the number of those awful plastic bags you bring home from the grocery store. So instead, you can decorate your own tote (made of organic cotton!) to bring your groceries home. They’re reusable, and also you can decorate it any way you want, so it’s cute! (I’m actually going to do this ASAP I think, and make some for friends for gifts!)

2. Spring Cleaning

As you’re gearing up for your spring cleaning, or maybe getting ready to move out of the dorms, you may find yourself needing new cleaning supplies. Well, many stores now offer eco friendly cleaning products. GreenWorks by Clorox includes all natural ingredients, come from renewable resources, are biodegradable, and are free of petrochemicals. More healthy for the environment and your family!

3. Eating Organic (from www.treehugger.com)

When you eat organic, don’t just picture the healthy food you are putting in your body, picture the healthy ecosystems which produced that food, the workers who are safer from chemicals, the land, water, and air that is being protected, and the wildlife that is being allowed to thrive. Organic vegetables, fruits, grains, juice, dairy, eggs, and meat (and don’t forget the organic wine and beer), are grown and processed in ways that support healthy people and a healthy planet. (While you may not be able to find or afford organic options for everything you need, certain fruits and vegetables are more pesticidy than others.) For details on the meaning of organic, see the USDA Organics homepage.

4. Stay Cool

As it’s starting to get warmer outside, it’s so tempting to crack up the air conditioning. But setting the thermostat just a few degrees higher than normal (a few lower in the winter!) can save tons on energy, which is good for the environment and your electric bill! Even better, turn the air off completely and open up the windows on some of these gorgeous spring days! As you head out for work or class in the mornings, do one last sweep of your house and make sure all lights and faucets are off, and set the thermostat warmer so the AC isn’t running all day when you aren’t even there. (This one is hard for me, but I’m making a conscious effort this year! I love my air conditioning…)

These are just a few suggestions, but there are tons of things out there you can do! I know it probably seems like “going green” is just some trendy fad and that everyone is just jumping on the band wagon, but really I’m ok with that (even though I think and hope it’s here to stay)! No matter what the motive is, the bottom line is that there are little things we can do every day that will help out our environment. And I really believe that this will begin to keep our earth beautiful and keep our families healthy. So take some time this week to maybe think about just one “green” habit you and your family can begin to incorporate into your lifestyle.

I’d love to hear if you all have any more fabulous “green” ideas to share!

Have a great evening everyone!
